Law Firm Website Design and SEO in New Jersey

New Jersey is interesting place for internet marketing.   By far the most populous State in terms of population per square mile.  However, the State lacks a major metro.   The challenge for SEOs is to attract business from the many counties, cities and hamlets that make up the State.   Besides the usual suspects (FindLaw Scorpion and Justia) there are other legal SEO companies that stand out in the Garden State.  One is Next Level, which is headquartered in New Jersey. Besides Next Level there are a 3 other companies that have a disproportionate number of New Jersey clients in the State;  Accel Marketing Solutions has at least 25 legal websites in New Jersey as of this posting.  GetLegal has 31 legal website customers and Zola/Amicus Creative has 28.

To evaluate the designs in Jersey I looked at all the legal websites county by county.  Below I choose my favorite legal design in each county, followed by some of the better finalists.

Atlantic County
Richard Stoloff – Very clean site in Linwood.  One of the better sites in South Jersey.  A former College Wrestler at Arizona St.!  Next Level site features their typical darker background hues.

Next Level really does dominate the Garden State.  My favorite design in Mercer County is yet again from Next Level – the PI site for Kamensky Cohen Riechelson.  The site features a nice background video, a staple of Next Level sites.

Clark & Clark – Really nice design from Apricot Law.  Very nice interactive design elements on the home page.

NEW JERSEY ARC 

When I go through all of the legal websites in a State like New Jersey I am doing more than tracking designs.   One of the things I track is Average Rank Consistency Score or (ARC).   Below are all of the sites from firms that attempt to market “New Jersey” personal injury.     The numbers going Left to Right correlate to the page of Google results I found the site on for the following keywords: (New Jersey Personal Injury Lawyer, New Jersey Car Accident Lawyer, New Jersey Injury Attorney, New Jersey Motorcycle Accident Lawyer, New Jersey Truck  Accident Lawyer, New Jersey Wrongful Death Lawyer, Accident Attorney New Jersey and New Jersey Brain Injury Lawyer) .    A score of 0.3 signifies the fact that the site came up in the top 3 (either maps or organic) and a score of 11 means that the site did not come up in the top 10 pages of ranking results.   The bolded number to the right is the Average Rank Consistency Score – basically a weighted average of the 8 keyword rankings.   I developed this methodology to compare websites and legal SEO company performance across different markets.

This analysis provides some useful data points in terms of where each firm ranked at a particular time for 8 keywords.  Thats it.  It is impossible to draw conclusions about one’s SEO campaign or a particular company from a point in time ranking analysis like this.   For one, many of the firms on this list have no ambition to be found in Statewide searches.   Normally when I do this, I only include firms that have the target area (City or State)  in the home page title tag.   But in this case I included everyone that showed up within the first 15 pages of results.   The other issue is that many on the list could have just launched their site or started SEO, thus giving an unfair view of a particular campaign.   Finally, when it comes to evaluating legal website companies, there is simply not enough data points to derive any meaningful insights from the New Jersey ARC numbers alone.   That said, since I perform this same analysis on thousands of sites across the country (I have done over 250 markets over the past few years),  I can objectively show which companies are consistently performing across all markets.

For example one of the firms that has two clients in the top 10 in New Jersey ARC is ConsultWebs.   This is not a surprise.   Consultwebs consistently scores low ARC numbers in many markets across the country.  They definitely know what they are doing when it comes to Legal Marketing.   I even did a post that compared ARC in certain markets where my company, iLawyermarketing, and Consultwebs each had a client.   Conversely there is a company that has a client ranking in the top 15 ARC score in New Jersey, but when you look at the ARC performance in other Tier 1 markets, that company has an average ARC of 5.43.  Ouch!
