The Arizona Center For Law In the Public Interest will be holding their annual fundraising event Saturday May 9th at the Bentley Projects at 215 E. Grant St. in Phoenix. There will be a live performance by the Afro-Brazilian dancing group – GRUPO AXE CAPOEIRA and a live and silent auction to benefit the organization. The event starts at 6 pm and will feature a hosted bar and heavy hors d’oeuvres by Arizona Taste.
The Center is the only homegrown public interest law firm in Arizona dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Arizonans. The Center is dedicated to helping children by assuring that there is a fair and equal funding source for schools regardless of whether the school is in rich district or a poor district. If it were not for the Center for Law, the children from Arizona’s poor districts would have absolutely no one fighting for their interests.
The Arizona Center for Law in the Public Interest has also fought tirelessly to preserve our environment. When no one else (including the EPA) was willing to take steps to reduce dangerous pollution in the Valley, the Center has stepped in – again and again – to make changes that have helped improve the quality of the air we breathe and the water we drink. The Center also acts to make sure that government operates in the open, as the law requires.
The Center has a grand total of three staff attorneys and usually confronts overwhelming resources on the other side in our litigation. They currently have a case in front of the United States Supreme Court, in which the trial court and the 9th Circuit has held the State in violation of its duty to adequately fund English Language Lerner (ELL) programs. It will be argued this month. The State has hired several different law firms simultaneously in an effort to overturn the Center’s success.
Anyone that would be interested in sponsoring and or attending this worthwhile event should contact Danny Adelman. I hope to see you there!
